Student • Lifelong Learner • Problem Solver
Welcome to my website. I’m Alexander Munson, a mechanical engineering student focused on learning as much as I can, and applying it to find simple yet elegant solutions.
About
I’m a mechanical engineering student at North Dakota State University pursuing minors in robotics and computer science. I’m driven by curiosity, hard work, and a constant desire to grow. Whether I’m working on research, design, or hands-on engineering projects, I aim to keep learning and pushing beyond what is expected of me.

Jet Propulsion Laboratory | Pasadena, CA
June 2026 - August 2026
This summer I will be working on application use case analysis and simulation for swarm of vehicles, analysis of RF and/or free space laser-based optical communication and communications related positioning, navigation, timing, power wireless transfer as well as radio science, laboratory experiments with the above relevant topics, hardware and software research and improvement for the above relevant topics.
Marvin Composites | Fargo, ND
June 2025 – Present
I conducted TGA, DSC, MTS QTest Elite mechanical assessments (flexural, tensile, compression) and physical characterizations (density measurements, PATTI coating adhesion tests, inorganic decompositions, Omnimark moisture tests) to assess and qualify resin formulations, fiberglass mats, and fiberglass rovings for composite parts. I also assessed a decade-long manufacturing issue using a root cause analysis approach, covering many different possibilities, and then provided the most effective opportunities for improvement to be implemented in production.
Bismarck Public Schools | Bismarck, ND
June 2021 - August 2024
I used time management to efficiently repair student Chromebooks, keeping the flow of work and output to a high standard. I learned and refined processes to repair computers, as well as install peripheral technology into classrooms, creating a successful and innovative environment. I troubleshot existing issues and solved them quickly to keep the school district technology working correctly and efficiently. I installed and tested numerous rooms of audio visual equipment, such as projectors and classroom speaker systems, in classrooms that were in use as well as working in an active construction site installing the equipment in new schools.
Education
B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Minors in Computer Science and Robotics
Expected Graduation: 2028
Extracuriculars: Bison Robotics - Combat Robotics, Jazz Lab Band
Honors: Harry D McGovern Scholar, Dean's List (all semesters)
Projects
I led a team of 5 to design the drivetrain and weapon systems of a 30lb combat robot, that competed in UIUC's Robobrawl XI.
I worked as a part of a team that designed and built a competitive 30lb combat robot, dubbed COWBOT, to compete in UIUC's Robobrawl X.
I lead a team of 4 engineering students to plan and design a playground to fit in the fargo area. This was a term project for my CAD class (ME 212 @NDSU).
You're looking at it right now! I've gone through multiple different iterations, updating as I gain more experience.
Coming Soon
I've always got more project ideas, but don't always have more time.
